BONE MARROW TRANSPLANT

The primary aim of the Department of Bone Marrow Transplant at Fortis Memorial Research Institute is to offer world-class care for all patients who need a hematopoietic stem cell/bone marrow transplant and to improve patient outcomes through research and staff education.

The Department strives to perform cutting-edge laboratory and clinical research, specifically in the fields of immunogenetics, cellular therapy, transplant tolerance, immune reconstitution, infection control, and survivorship.

Our patients include new-borns, infants, children, adolescents and young adults who have a malignant or non-malignant life-threatening disorder that is treatable with a hematopoietic stem cell / bone marrow transplant with autologous cells or allogeneic cells.

The BMT department at FMRI is at the forefront of treatment for Leukaemia, Aplastic Anaemia, Lymphatic and Solid malignant tumours and is a leader in the field both in Israel and on an international level. BMT for non-malignant diseases, of which some are genetic and congenital and some metabolic related, is also carried out.

Our physicians have gained enormous expertise in carrying our several procedures such a autologous transplant for multiple myelomas, lymphomas, paediatric bone marrow transplant, and thalassemia transplant etc.

The department meets international criterion for BMT performance, and participates in and presents on a regular basis at international conferences on BMT and scientific publications and research on the subject.

Dr Rahul Bhargava in 2016 became the first Indian doctor to do and popularize stem cell transplant in multiple sclerosis. He has been credited of establishing 6 low cost centres across India namely at Sarvodaya hospital, Batra hospital, Action Balaji hospital etc.. He and his team has done 400+ transplants. He is known for his excellent outcome in stem cell transplant specially in haploidentical transplant and his vision of first integrated centre of excellence in Haematology, paediatric haematology and stem cell transplant has been full filled at Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurgaon (India)

2013 - 2016 he joined Artemis as Head of Haematology and did the first haploidentical transplant in Gurgaon.

Dr Vikas Dua is Paediatric Hemato Oncologist and bone marrow transplant specialist. Dr.Dua’s results in the field of Paediatric Haematology Oncology and BMT have been some of the best. He and his team has done 200+ paediatric transplants. He is known for his excellent outcome in stem cell transplant especially in Paediatric haploidentical transplant and he has done some of the very rare transplants which nobody else has done in India.
